Partnerships with Schools of Nursing
Seton works closely with – and makes contributions to – Austin Community College, the University of Texas at Austin and others – to expand and enhance their nursing programs. Seton admits more than 1,500 student nurses in practicums, internships and other venues that enrich the professional practice of nursing in the community.
Capstone Programs
This fairly traditional yet creative practicum experience is through The University of Texas at Austin and offers two different levels of experience. The BSN candidate spends the last semester of the senior year in an intense 120-hour, six-week program working alongside a direct care nurse in an area of the student’s choosing. Students are supported by preceptors in gaining clinical competence at the BSN level. Students practice the essential relationship skills – communication, collaboration, negotiation, delegation, coordination and evaluation of interdisciplinary work. Similarly, a four-week Capstone experience is also part of the Austin Community College curriculum just prior to graduation.
For the alternate-entry MSN student, there is a six-semester program that combines the first four semesters combine clinical and classroom education. MSN students complete the NCLEX exam, and then complete degree work during the last two semesters.
Nursing Loan Repayment Program
The Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) offered through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services gives assistance to registered nurses for repayment of educational loans (60 - 85 percent of the qualifying loan balance) in exchange for service in eligible facilities located in areas experiencing a shortage of nurses. Seton RNs are eligible for this program.

Seton is proud to have four hospitals – the only hospitals in Central Texas - that have earned the
