Austin's largest medical/surgical acute care center, Seton Medical Center Austin is the only hospital in Central Texas that performs heart transplants. One of four Magnet hospitals in the Seton Family of Hospitals, Seton Medical Center Austin offers comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for both inpatients and outpatients and regional specialty programs including the Seton Heart Specialty Care and Transplant Center, Shivers Cancer Programs and the Marialice Shivers Regional Neonatal Center. Seton Medical Center Austin was also one of the first two hospitals in Texas to receive certification as a Primary Stroke Center.
New Expansion to Consolidate Obstetrical Services
Seton Medical Center Austin is undertaking its second expansion project in 2 years. The expansion, located at the west side of the hospital, will enable Seton Medical Center Austin to meet the growing needs of the region and enhance the patient experience.
Highlights of the 124,000-square-foot, five-story addition include:
- Consolidation and expansion of obstetrical services and 43,000 square feet of renovations. When complete, this will provide the capacity for 5,000 births per year.
- Thirty new and 10 renovated postpartum patient rooms.
- A new Continuing Care (Transition) Nursery as well as two new Full-Term Nurseries.
- A covered pedestrian foot bridge connecting Seton Medical Center Austin to Medical Park Tower.
- A new public entrance, lobby and large gift shop located on the ground floor.
- Two floors set aside for future expansion, with space for an additional 60 inpatient beds.
